Materials/Methods:
This randomized, double blind, multicentered study was performed by the corneas of the H.M Haseki Eye Bank. The cultures results of the 41 vancomycin applied cornea rims (G1) and 34 rims without any antibiotic application (G2) were investigated. Optisol-GS storage media was used for all of the harvested corneas. The mate corneas were distributed into the groups. G1 had 5 minutes 1 mg/ml vancomycin application in the beginning of the operation. G2 received no prophylaxis. The remaining rims were sent to microbiology labs in sterile tubes.
